Mississippi prioritized the online safety of children; this prompted an effort to protect minors from exposure to pornographic content online. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, on April 18, 2023, signed the senate bill (SB 2346), also known as “An Act to Regulate Pornographic Media Exposure to Children.”
This act mandates websites containing a substantial portion of pornographic content must implement reasonable verification methods to confirm the age of individuals attempting to access such material.
Legislators with the Mississippi Library Association have revised this act to narrow the bill to the most harmful online content.
